Panasonic announced on December 1st 2020 that it had decided on a global basis to close its Business Communication business. Below are the key points of the announcement and associated timelines.

 

• The Panasonic factory will continue production towards the end of Calendar Year 2022. The last order indication must be collected from distributors at the point of April 2022. Due to global components shortage there will be some models with availability constraint. Please check with your distributor as we are updating regularly with them.

• Panasonic Technical support will remain in place for 4yrs until 31st December 2024.

• Panasonic Software Support will remain in place for 4yrs until 31st December 2024, there will be no new feature releases and support will be limited to software bug fixes.

• Panasonic Spare parts will be available until 31st December 2029 and repair services will continue as contractually agreed and provided by legislation.

 

Further to this, Modern Telecom plans to continue to support Panasonic products for as long as is reasonably possible.

At the moment we see no reason why we can't continue to support Panasonic systems way beyond Panasonic own time schedule.

Modern Telecom has always held good stock of Panasonic handsets, systems and components.

For many businesses keeping alive what has always been a good reliable system makes financial sense, especially when they can be upgraded ready for the big switch off in 2025.  we see no reason why our customers shouldn't be using a Panasonic system up to and perhaps into the next decade.

 

 

Upgrade Path

The table below will give a basic idea of what is required.

For example, a TDA15 or TDA30 will need a full upgrade of the main box to an NCP for example, but given the age of the TDA and small system size it is likely far better to migrate to our Hosted PBX.

The TDA100/200 can be upgraded to a TDE with just a CPU and DSP card making these larger systems very cost effective to upgrade.

The NCP, TDE and NS systems are already VoIP compatible and will only require a daughter board (the DSP card) to be installed if its not already present.

Owners of the Panasonic NS systems can now be upgraded to license free firmware, meaning SIP/VoIP lines has never been more cost effective.
